Steve Brown, real estate editor of The Dallas Morning News, answered readers questions in an online chat on Nov. 22, 2017.

Here are some of his responses printed Dec. 3, 2017.

Do you see Oak Cliff rents flat-lining any time soon?

There are so many new apartments coming up near Bishop Arts area. Any close-in neighborhood that has access to restaurants, entertainments and jobs centers is going to see growth. And since 40 percent of the people who live in DFW are renters, the demand for apartments will continue to soar in places like Oak Cliff, East Dallas and Oak Lawn.

What is the best residential area of DFW to buy in for long term value increase? $200k-$300k purchase price range

First ring suburbs including Richardson, Garland, Mesquite, Irving, etc. are going to see continue demand for housing and are already having huge home sales increases,

Why is it so difficult for a middle class DFW homebuyer to find a decent house—not huge, not ancient, not practically in Oklahoma?

The competition from both first-time buyers and investors has run up the cost of moderate-priced homes in close-in locations. I don't expect that to stop any time soon. There will be more pressure from Baby Boomers who are wanting to sell big honking houses in the 'burbs and find something smaller and a bit closer in. If builders can figure out how to meet this demand they will strike gold. But it's tough to do with land prices.

PORT ARANSAS – Business leaders in Port Aransas have set a goal for the coastal town to be largely rebuilt and ready for tourists during spring break 2018.

Port Aransas received some of the worst damage from Hurricane Harvey in late August 2017.

Port Aransas Chamber of Commerce President Jeff Hentz said they want repairs close to 100 percent by the beginning of the summer, with a goal of having 85 percent of business and more than half of the hotels, condos and vacation homes ready by spring break 2018.

If spring break 2018 is the town's grand opening, the Whooping Crane Festival will be its soft opening.

The annual birding festival draws hundreds of birders to Port Aransas to catch a glimpse of the endangered crane.

Port Aransas learned that it has been selected to host the Texas rounds of competitions for the Food Network's World Food Championships in September 2018.
